Top Cheap Montreal Motels
Montreal Motels:
Montreal hotels can charge some pretty scary prices! If you're on a limited budget, you may get left out in the cold...and Canadian winters get pretty cold!
But staying at Montreal motels does not mean your trip experience should be cheapened. I'll say it again, because it's that important...
Staying at a cheap hotel does not mean your trip experience should be cheapened.
There are incredible things to
discover
during your stay. You don't have to pay for cashmere towels and diamonds on your hotel pillow in order to have a good time, right?
During my family's explorations of the island we've noted a few very nice, cheap hotels and motels. If you have more to add to my list,
please feel free to contact me with information on Montreal motels!
Choose a cheap hotel if you don't want to spend a lot on where you rest your head. This doesn't mean it can't be a great place.
I've chosen these Montreal motels because they are the best bang for your buck. They'll offer you a comfy space to hang your work hat, roll up your sleeves and hit the town!
Better still, your room will be waiting for you with outstretched arms and a fluffy bed when the sun has hitch-hiked out of Quebec, the St. Lawrence river has quieted down and you're ready to absorb the day of memories in a complimentary hot tub.

Walking-Distance From Downtown Montreal
TIP: A hotel on the outskirts of downtown is way cheaper than staying in downtown but it's virtually the same thing; just an extra five minute walk.
1) Sunrise Motel
Sunrise Motel is my favourite cheap motel. And conveniently located? Oh, it's hard to do better. At only a three minute drive from the heart of downtown, it's a steal!
HERE'S A TIP: buy four hour blocks at a time and it's only 20$ per block. This includes all the fixings, like airconditioning, double bed, bathroom with shower, television, and towels.
And what should you do with this extra change? Well, you can spend 45 cents to write me a thank you letter ; )
Sunrise Motel is located at 6120 ST JACQUES, MONTRÉAL, QC H4A 2G4. Here's there phone #: (514) 484-0048
A perk or a deal breaker (depending on your politics)is that this motel is also a popular hangout for women looking to sleep with men for money. I find this adds to the motel's funky atmosphere and helps make it a favorite for travelling business men.
Of all the Montreal motels, this is certainly a fan favorite.
2) Quality Hotel Downtown Montreal
TIP: Gorgeous view of Mount Royal. Within Dancing distance of the legendary
Montreal Tam Tams.
Is the Quality Hotel Downtown Montreal a 'Quality Hotel'? Absolutely.
Is it in 'Downtown Montreal'? Well, not exactly...
Actually, this concrete slab of urban paradise sits at the foot of Mount Royal, at the crossroads between downtown Montreal, the Plateau, and Old Montreal.
So it's very possible to do some downtown shopping, then go for a picturesque country walk through the mountains...
all in the same pair of underwear.

3) HI-Montreal: "Auberge de Jeunesse"
TIP: #1 Choice for backpackers.
My first impression was that it's in the heart of downtown Montreal and it looks like a giant frat house. And wouldn't you know, I was right...
This hostel was a party and the fact that it's part of an international chain means that you can rest assured that it meets certain industry standards.
Of the Montreal motels, it's the only youth hostel which offers the top 3-star rating
When I stayed here the staff was friendly and even organized a trip to the museum for everyone!
You Should Stay Here If... you like the backpacker existence (the floors are clean but the guests are a bit dirty behind the ears).
Great for a budget: It costs only 30$ per person, per night and you have full access to a kitchen, free internet, etc.
Also, I loved the community aspect, something missing from many Montreal motels.
TIP 2: The hostel staff organize group activities almost every night. Keep reading to find out more...
You Should NOT Stay Here If...
- You aren't feeling sociable (most rooms sleep 10 and you can choose between a co-ed or single sex room)
- You aren't comfortable with sleeping in the same room as strangers
- You want a good night's sleep
With so many people in my room, I didn't get the best night's sleep...
But I didn't care. I met some very interesting, nice people and while I had bags under my eyes the next day, they were happy bags!
But want sleep and privacy? Then I don't recommend this motel.
